Saturday, Nov 9, 2019 at 8:00 AM (CT) to Saturday, Nov 9, 2019 at 11:00 PM (CT)

Join the UNT Military History Center for the 37th Annual Hurley Seminar to learn the inside story of how D-Day was the hammer blow that ensured the defeat of Nazi Germany. The D-Day invasion was a profoundly complex operation requiring mastery of combined arms, synchronized fires from air, land, and sea, a unified, efficient Allied command, deception, disinformation, and espionage, courage under withering fire, and good luck and decent weather. James Holland -- author of the newly published Normandy '44 -- will describe in colorful detail the massive challenges overcome by the Americans, British, and Canadians to gain a foothold on the French shore despite the sophisticated defenses of Hitler's Atlantic Wall. And what of the Germans? Peter Caddick-Adams, British Army veteran and author of a new history of D-Day -- Sand and Steel -- will consider the Allied invasion from the German perspective. What was the German posture in June 1944? What were their options and command arrangements for the looming cross-Channel invasion and battle for France? Could they have repulsed the Allies and driven them into the sea, or were they destined to fail? Join us for a rousing and timely reevaluation of D-Day on its 75th Anniversary.
